Fear

Fear

I love monsters, and Bela Lugosi's Dracula holds a special place in my heart. I remember watching it when I was a kid and feeling this electric charge of excitement. It lacked the real sense of terror I'd become accustomed to with my vampire flicks, but that didn't matter. Long before I read the novel or saw any of the Hammer Horror movies, Lugosi's Dracula was THE Dracula in my mind, and the experience did not disappoint.

I’ve had this image with these colors in my head for weeks, but I was too scared because I don't have a lot of experience with paint. So I split the difference and invested in some Posca pens. Comfort zones are cozy, but every once in a while it’s good for us to take a look around, stretch our legs, and try new things. Once I told myself to get over it and got to work, it was like anything else in life. Mistakes, trials, errors, discovery. That seems to be my common pattern.

Am I happy with this? Not entirely, but I had fun and pulling the image out of my head and into reality is always satisfying when making art.
